Safari-mac-update-macworld-australiaOn Thursday Apple released an updated version of its Safari web browser for OS X, improving security when users encounter malicious websites.

In reference to the previous version of the Safari browser, the official release notes stated that “Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.” This was due to corruption issues in Webkit, with the issue being solved as a result of improved memory handling.

The issue was solved by a combination of Apple technicians, Google Chrome Security Team and an anonymous researcher.

The update is available for OS X Lion v10.7.5, OS X Lion Server v10.7.5, OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5 and OS X Mavericks v10.9.4
