Apple has released a digital user’s guide for its new iPod touch, while alleged benchmark tests of the fifth-generation device reveal an 800HMz processor speed has been measured from its A5 chip.

According to screenshots published by Japanese blog Macotakara, the new iPod touch is running an ARM Cortex-A9 Apple A5 chip at speeds matching that of the iPhone 4S.

The iPod touch’s display has the same 4in 1,136-by-640 pixel display as the iPhone 5, but a slightly less powerful battery than the new iPhone, at 3.7-volts giving 930mAh of power.

The new iPod touch was announced alongside the iPhone 5 and the new iPod nano on 12 September and could begin shipping today, according to reports.

Apple also released the official user’s guide for the fifth generation iPod touch today, indicating that the device will be in customers’ hands imminently. You can download the guide for free here.
