Rumours have been circulating as to whether Apple is building near field communication capabilities into the next generation of iPhones and iPads.

Recent job postings by Apple seeking two managers of global payment platforms and a test engineer for iPhone hardware have added to mounting circumstantial evidence.

In the original post, Apple’s new test engineer was required to have a background in ICT (information and communications technology) and RFID (radio frequency identification) – part of the foundation of NFC. Interestingly, Apple then removed the “ID” in “RFID”.

Adding to the NFC buzz is “the analysis and development of new payment types and processes for the various business units” requisite to position of manager of global payment platforms.

If these rumours are true Apple is set to turn the expanding mobile payments market upside down by implementing this kind of system on a large scale.
