A new job listing hints that Apple is working on new APIs and frameworks for iOS 7.

The listing, which was posted on Friday, seeks an iOS Frameworks QA Engineer who will “develop the very first iPhone/iPad app that uses a new API/framework for the next version of iOS,” reports Apple Insider.

Apple describes that the new member of the iOS team will help ensure that iOS 7′s brand new APIs (Application Programming Interface) and frameworks are high quality, and that the iOS software development kit (SDK) is up to scratch for the “hundreds of thousands of developers who will produce the next great iPhone and iPad app.”

The listing doesn’t reveal any specific details about what the new APIs and frameworks could bring to the next version of iOS, but rumour has it that Apple is currently testing iOS 7 running on a next-gen iPhone (dubbed iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S), if identifiers spotted in developer analytics logs are anything to go by.

AppleInsider notes that the public job listing is an unusual acknowledgement that something new is in the works from Apple, a company known for its secrecy.

There are several other iOS-related job listings on Apple’s jobs page, including iOS Software Engineer roles that will involve developing new iPhone and iPad apps.

It’s still not yet known when Apple will launch iOS 7, but the company has been known to unveil new mobile operating systems during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference that typically happens in June.

During 2012′s WWDC, Apple introduced iOS 6 complete with its new mapping service, alongside a Retina MacBook Pro and more information about OS X Mountain Lion. iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 were released to the public in September.
