WiFi issues include an inability to pick up local WiFi networks, connection drops, slow download and upload speeds, and more, according the this ‘Poor WiFi reception on new iPad’ thread on Apple forums discussing the problems, which currently has 712 replies.
Apple has published an AppleCare document internally, that indicates that it is investigating the issues.
In the document, obtained by 9to5Mac, Apple tells AppleCare employees to ensure that devices they test are not facing these issues due to normal software bugs, but instead because of the actual hardware components.
According to Apple it is the WiFi-only iPad that are affected by the issue. Apple requests that the iPads affected are “captured”, which 9to5Mac suggests means they are shipped back to Apple and examined.
Apple will replace retired units.
