Apple has acquired a company that specialises in HTML5.

Particle is a small consulting company based in San Francisco that specialises in web applications and marketing projects using HTML5, according to Cnet.

The company was founded in 2008 with financial support from Justin Timberlake, who used it to create his social video service. Other clients have included Google, Motorola and Amazon.

Particle’s Founder Aubry Anderson did some consulting for Apple between 2006 and 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile.

It is thought the acquisition will help Apple in their HTML5 product pages along with iAd and iCloud.

On the About page of the Particle website, the company states: “Particle brings positive and energetic relationships with Google and the Chrome team specifically, as well as great Apple relationships and execution experience around iAds, iTunes Extras, and”

Steve Jobs praised HTML5 as an alternative to Flash, which he refused to support on the iPad or iPhone pointing to instability and security issues.
