Apple is rumoured to be launching a revamped iPod nano later this year, and it will not be square-shaped like the current model.

Instead, the new nano will return to the old design, with a rectangular screen, and will also be thinner than the current model according to the Japanese Macotakara website.

The site adds that the device will feature a Home button like that on the iPhone and iPad, and have a dedicated iTunes service built in.

The details appear to come from a source who claims to have seen a leaked case revealing the new design.

A mockup of the new device based on Macotakara’s information shows the rumoured new iPod nano to be a mix of Apple’s iPhone or iPod touch with Apple’s fifth-generation iPod nano, which also featured a rectangular shape but was controlled by a click-wheel.
