An author is asking Apple to help fund a cure for the cancer that killed CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs.

Author Alexander Masters’ editor Dido Davies is suffering from neuroendocrine (NET) tumours – the same type of cancer of the pancreas that Jobs had. Masters is seeking a cure.

A team of Swedish researchers are developing a treatment in which a virus “eats” the NET cancer cells, according to a Telegraph report. They need £2 million ($3.1 million)  to fund clinical trials.

Masters told The Telegraph: “I would wholeheartedly appeal to them [Apple] to help fund this research. After all, Apple rakes in £2 million every seven minutes.”

Professor Magnus Essand of Uppsala University in Sweden claimed the modified virus “kills human tumour cell lines that are resistant to every drug available.”

“We urgently need to see if we can replicate these results in humans.”

There is more information about the research here.

  2. Macworld Australia Staff says:

    Thanks, Annica. Fixed now.

  3. Mary A Schmidt says:

Could you spare any funds for the many remaining Neuroendocrine Tumor Cancer Patients?
We are just good people like Steve was. I for example am excited to have my first 3 grand babies. Hope I can be with them a while. But this cancer gets close to no support or funding. Buddy can you spare a dime?

I found this article on the about how a researcher in sweden has a modified virus which can target cancer cells, multiply inside them and explode it and infect the other cancer cells, repeating the process. It sounds awesome! steve jobs died from the pancreatic version of this cancer.

I think it would be awesome to raise awareness that for 2 years a potential cure or delaying factor has sat in a fridge and done nothing because the guy can’t raise a single million euros.

a million euros??? don’t they pay bankers less than that for a yearly bonus??? it’s pathetic how bad this world is where you can get a million for being a cog in a corrupt system, but a cure which affects millions has trouble raising a few thousand….

lets prove them wrong! please like and share, I also have an awareness page for this specific issue here:

There are various ways to donate:

    The official paypal is here:

The unofficial donation campaign, mimicking theoatmeals campaign is here:

I hope you don’t mind posting this up for people to raise awareness
