Apple’s App Store has reached an incredible 50 billion downloads, passing the milestone early this morning.

The Cupertino-based company is yet to announce who downloaded the 50 billionth app, winning a US$10,000 App Store gift card, or who won the second prize of a US$500 App Store gift card being given to someone who downloaded one of the first 50 apps after the milestone.

Apple’s last App Store countdown in March last year, saw Chunli Fu in China receive the US$10,000 gift card, after downloading the 25 billionth app from the App Store – Disney’s Where’s My Water? Free game.

After launching in 2008, the App Store is growing exponentially with the App Store reaching 40 billion app downloads in January – almost half of which came in 2012.
