There’s been further indication this week that Apple is indeed planning to release a branded television product, with Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster recently releasing a note to clients reporting that the company has a TV in the works.

According to AppleInsider, Munster had recently attended meetings in Asia that suggested Apple’s US$3.9bn investment is being used to secure manufacturing facilities and a supply of LCD screens. The move into the television market, however, wouldn’t be happening any time soon, with the analyst forecasting a 2012 release at the very earliest.

Today’s news follows a recent report from Australian Macworld, who received word from an industry source (who wished to remain anonymous) that major third-party manufacturers had consulted Apple about developing a TV, and considered the move into home entertainment the next big strategic direction for the company.
