All hail, scribes!

Facing a document that requires a heavy hand – perhaps to inform the Queen of a new continent? Fire up that quill-tipped cursor and download TrueType font RM New Albion (free) to get your missive out the door.

RM New Albion maintains its angle on classic Blackletter by serving up a shot of Old English with a twist of computer-age coding. You’ll find the characters legible beginning at 24 points and commanding in headlines of 72 points and above.

The font’s hand-drawn appeal gives the impression you laboured late into the night, but 106 characters (encompassing a healthy dose of numerals and symbols ) guarantees you’ll retire at a civilised hour. Plus, the designer has thoughtfully included the @ sign, the better to let the Queen know where to reach you with hearty congratulations.

Note: This font works fine on the Mac.  Macworld has independently tested the font on a Mac system.
