Apple Australia has quietly introduced end-of-life prices for its range of first-generation iPads, to clear stock before the new, improved iPad 2 arrives on March 25.

The move is unusual, as the end-of-life prices are usually only available when the new stock arrives in-store.

Representing a 20 percent discount on full retail, the new prices are:

16GB Wi-Fi: $449 (old price $629)

32GB Wi-Fi: $579 ($759)

64GB Wi-Fi: $689 ($879)

16GB Wi-Fi + 3G: $598 ($799)

32GB Wi-Fi + 3G: $729 ($928)

64GB Wi-Fi + 3G: $839 ($1049)

The new iPad 2 is thinner, lighter and faster, with front- and rear-facing cameras and available in white as well as black, but the old model is still the best tablet PC available on the market right now, so these prices represent excellent value if you can live without the new features.

Check the prices for iPads, on eBay. It’s cheaper to buy them from Apple …
