One new feature I like in Lion is the Multi- Touch gesture to look a word up in the dictionary – three-finger double tap. However, I can’t seem to get this feature to work in Preview when viewing PDF documents, even though the option to look the word up in the dictionary is in one of the Preview menus.

Any idea why this might be? Maybe I’m just not doing the gesture correctly in Preview. It seems to work for me in other programs, such as Pages. I am hoping this feature is system-wide and there is an option I just need to set.

Keep up the good work at Macworld Australia. I am a digital magazine subscriber and I’ve just started reading it on my iPad.

When viewing a PDF within Preview, you highlight the word in question and right-click (two fingers on the track pad) and a menu will come up with the third option being to ‘Look up in Dictionary’. This will differ from other programs such as Pages, which will have ‘Look Up’ as the first option available. It can also be found as the first option under ‘Writing Tools’ in some programs when using the same gesture.
