If you use OS X’s built-in Go > Connect to Server command in Finder, you can save the IP address of each computer that you connect to via VNC (Virtual Network Computing). The problem is that you can’t save any details for each IP address (like the name of the machine). This makes it difficult to remember which IP address relates to which computer you want to control.

The answer is easy … and free! Create a bookmark in Safari. The name of the bookmark should be the name of the computer (eg, John’s MacBook) Then enter the URL for the bookmark (eg, for a local network). Safari will launch Screen Sharing automatically and you can login.

If you type user@ (‘user’ being the user login name) as the URL in the bookmark, then the Screen Sharing app will attempt to login as that user. You only have to enter your password to start a VNC session.
