Office broke Firefox

I recently upgraded my Office suite to the 2008 version, and found I couldn’t use Mozilla Firefox anymore – it just would not load from the Dock or the Applications folder.

I’ve heard that Office 2008 drops in some fonts that maybe create problems for Firefox. It would be nice to be able to use Firefox when I want to, so have you any suggestions that may help? Thanks again for all your great work.

Here are a couple of suggestions for you, Philip:

1. Open Font Book (Applications > Font Book), select All Fonts from the left-hand menu, use c-A to select all, then go to the top menu, and select File > Validate Fonts. The fonts Office is responsible for breaking will be marked with warning signs. Remove them from the list and Firefox should work again.

2. Remove Office 2008 entirely (Go to Applications > Microsoft Office 2008 > Additional Tools > Remove Office > Remove Office application), reboot, and reinstall Office. However, this time select a Custom install instead of a Standard one and deselect the option for Office Fonts.
