If your Apple TV has stopped showing up under the Devices heading in iTunes' sidebar, there are a few things to check.

As a central-California resident, I’m accustomed to a couple of flavours of weather—mild and not-as-intensely-mild-as-it-was-last-week. Yet this week we’ve been getting hammered with real, honest-to-god weather—hail, buckets of rain, high winds, thunder, lightning, and the occasional flurry of toads. And, because our power lines remain above ground—as the early decades of the 20th century intended—the power went phut and I spent much of the day in the dark.

In September, Apple performed the now-yearly ritual of updating its iPod lineup in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. Why? Apple sold 22.7 million iPods in the previous holiday quarter, compared with 21.2 million iPods in the two quarters that followed—combined. In other words, now’s the time that people love to buy Apple’s digital music players.

If you're even a moderately heavy photographer, you may find that your iPhoto library is actually much larger on disk than it is reported in iPhoto. Confused why this is?

As I type these words, I am waiting for Apple's Developer Connection web site to ease up sufficiently for me to download the long-awaited Software Developer Kit for the iPhone (and iPod touch, just by the by). In a way, I hate developer-oriented announcements — "here's a really cool thing we're working on, and it's available now, and hoi polloi can have it in about six months". Actually, it's the six months I hate.
