Charging your phone using sunlight is not as far-fetched as you may think; XD Design’s new Window Charger is breaking all the moulds with its solar capabilities. The Solar Window Charger consists of an ABS case and solar panel, with a 1400mAh rechargeable lithium battery inside and an output of 5V/max. It features a mini USB input and USB output on the base to power up all your USB-compatible devices, including an iPhone or iPad. Just stick the charger in the window and let nature take care of the rest.

  1. wb says:

$90 to purchase a solar charger when the iPhone 5 costs less that $1 a year to charge?

  2. peter says:

I cannot verify this model but there are many of these solar chargers popping up on the market and from the two I have tried the solar cells are not very good.

It takes forever in full sun to get some charge into them and they never seem to reach capacity. I have resorted to plugging them into mains or the computer to get a full charge.

The idea of being able to charge up a large capacity portable battery has wide appeal but I believe it takes higher quality and more expensive solar cells to meet customer expectations.

Make sure you can return the product if you are not happy with it before buying one.
