Tannoy has released a new series of loudspeakers designed for the cash-conscious audiophile. The Mercury V range has evolved from the Mercury F Custom range, with every component upgraded. The range comprises the Mercury V1 stand mount, the potent V4 floorstander, the dedicated Mercury VC centre channel speaker and the compact wall mount Mercury VR rear speaker, some of which come with wall mount fixtures. The Mercury series uses slightly larger cabinets than earlier models, with revised bracing for deeper and more accurate bass response and a new ultra light pulp fibre mid/bass cone for faster LF dynamic attack. The new Mercury V soft-dome tweeter is engineered to tolerances generally found on much more costly loudspeaker designs. Tannoy says that the improvements give the Mercury V’s both a subtler and more powerful sound.
