Well, here's a bit of weirdness ...

I went to update the Currency Converter widget, which is hugely helpful in my day-to-day work (I might be the last person using widgets, though ... anyone else?) but when the time came to install it , the ever-helpful Gatekeeper said it "can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer":

But ... it's downloaded from Apple's own Dashboard Widgets page.

Which means that Apple is hosting content from unidentified developers!

So Widgets are on their way out too are they Dave?

Damn damn damn damn and damn!

I must get home and read that pile of Macworld magazines on the doorstep!

I thought Gatekeeper screening happened at the App Store? Therefore it follows that widgets eventually must make a transition into Apps doesn't it?

And yes, I have a few which are used daily. (I don't keep any that aren't in use) - currency converter, convert, three clocks (because I "work" in three timezones), Convert (for all sorts of odd conversions), Tides (an old sailor's habit), Two countdown timers - helps me programme the time we've got left before we have to fly again!, Calculator because sometimes it's just easy to have, iStat pro ('cause it's interesting to see the 75°c temperature of the processor when Aperture is at work, and FOUR weather widgets, one for "home" in Aus, one for our "home port" in France, one for our daughter's "home" in London - and one for the nearest centre to wherever we are heading. (currently Corre, in Franche Comte where we are looking at a pleasant 26° maximum after an overnight low of 14).

The great thing about all of that is that I can monitor it all in an instant, I may not be lost without them, but I'd miss them. I have similar Apps on the "devices" too, but they don't enjoy the same regular access to internet services.

Cheers,

P

You will have to either Turn the setting OFF in Security and Privacy, or when you down load the update, Press Control Key, and then select open from the Menu
Come on 20K
