my iMac's HD is filling up so i've started to dump my bigger media files like movies on to an external drive which i've plugged into my Time Capsule but my TV can't see them, any ideas on how I can get it to work?

I only know how to move your entire iTunes library and get iTunes to point to it, not individual files.

JZ you have to Connect the Time Capsule to the apple TV via a cable for it to work

This might work (or not). Go to - iTunes Preferences -> Advanced -> and uncheck "copy files to media folder when adding to library".
Your movies will probably have an "!" next top them meaning they are not in the library. But when you click on the movie, it should ask if you want to navigate to the the (now) missing file.
Once you have done that, by my reckoning, it should work.

Ok, now go - File -> add to library, and add the file (making sure the "copy file to iTunes library" is still unchecked). Good luck.

your a genius, where the heck have you been hiding on these forms, well done, that deserves a spot in next months Australian MacWorld.
one question does leaving "copy file to iTunes library" unchecked cause any problems?

Thanks for the compliment.
You can check that box again now, as it helps keep your audio organised. Just be aware of it when adding Movies to your library, otherwise it will make a copy on your local drive.
