Intel have announced the new series of ivy bridge processors are now available, ranging from the base model at 3.5Ghz right up to there power house i7 ~ 3.90Ghz model with turbo boost technology.

My guess is that we will see a built option on a new iMac with an i7 ~ 3.90Ghz option for a premium price, but at the some time, the possible death of the Mac Pro, as this little bad boy will have enough grunt for even the serious user.

Full specs here

What does everybody else think? could an iMac this powerful kill off the mac pro ?

I was watching Mac Break Weekly last week and the problem is a lot of pros still need the expandability the Pro offers. I think it would damage Apple to kill it. All it needs really is a speed bump.

Im waiting for the Ivy Bridge iMacs to come out...I hope now that the Ivy Bridge processors have been officially released, the new iMacs aren't that far off from being released. I also wonder if there will be a new design or as Jamie Z put it... An iMac Air.... How cool would that be...:)

I agree with Alex, Pros need the expandability the Mac Pro offers.

The problem with the Mac pro, is apple gives it no love at all, it's sort like a B&$%}]<D red headed step child, you keep locked up in the shed and only let out on its birthday.

And for that reason, I don't think apple really care if it lives or dies.
