I'm glad they aren't being so secretive about their software... Maybe this is a new direction for Apple with their software...but they continue to keep their hardware secretive.
Cant wait to watch the preview.
I guess now that you can download the OS from the Mac App store, it's alot cheaper.. So to make up the difference in money they have to release a new OS every year....

There hasn't been anything in the last few weeks, but I recall that just after Lion came out there were a couple of stories that Apple was already onto the next OS. I'll see if I can track them down...
I wouldn't be getting too excited just yet though - I can't see that it will be out before June!

Looks good, I think I'll be getting it. Clearly aimed at home/SOHO market. I don't see enterprise being enamoured with this.

This is what I envision.... eventually after a few years the iPad will become the Mac as well as the iPad....
The iPad will be the screen that hooks to a keyboard dock...instantly it boots into OSX. Disconnect it from the keyboard....it becomes an iPad.
Or it will eventually become like that concept that has been floating around where the iMacs screen slides down so you can touch the screen, slide it back up and it becomes a Mac.
Apple are clever at marketing...and by slowling morphing OSX and iOS features together...this is where it's heading...eventually.
I just love their innovation and ease of use. I wish I could use a Mac at work!

I remember that too. Moving on to the next thing is pretty standard--it usually takes longer, is all.

I am sure that there are ways to do this but I fear that it may add discomfort and expense to developers and that really doesn't make a lot of sense. Apple hardly want to alienate developers so how do they manage this? My suggestion is that it may be that the development environment becomes cloud based. In some ways it makes sense but in many others it harks back to the early days when you had to arrange compile time, run time then wait for the results to be returned. Are we ready for things to turn full circle??

a couple things i've noticed though, how come iPhone doesn't get the stand alone FaceTime App like the iPad and iPod touch
and doesn't it seem a bit strange that almost all the iLife apps are on iOS yet iPhoto is Mac only - even though there is a Photo App on iOS i've found it strange that iMovie and Garage Band and even iWork apps are on both iOS and OS X yet iPhoto isn't....

1. Because the iPhone is a - well - phone. FaceTime is designed as an adjunct to phoning someone, not a replacement. Other devices don't have a phone hence the stand alone app. It's like iMessage which seamlessly integrates with sms on the iPhone but is an Apple-to-Apple only tool on the Mac and iPod.
2. Good point. Although there is some cross over. The Photo App is a file sorting app and there is limited editing in the camera and photo apps. But it would make sense to release iPhoto. OTOH there are some great editing apps already so doesn't really matter.

1. yeah i get the FaceTime thing on iPhone but it, FaceTime seems a little hidden on an iPhone, it's not till you dig into your contacts and scroll all the way to the bottom to find the small FaceTime option, i just think a stand alone App makes sense, and considering (as I mentioned before) it's on every other device
2. I'd just like to see the Photos app renamed iPhoto

3. and while i'm being a little picky:
• why no Photo Booth on iPhone?
• why no weather App on iPad?
• why no clock App on iPad?
