Hi folks,

I recently purchased a second-hand MacBook which was originally purchased in South Africa.

It's just like its good ol' Aussie counterpart except for the keyboard. Those South Africans must do things a little differently over there. The Enter key is tiny and frequently missed but worse still, the Shift key is smaller still and slotted behind the Tilde. So most times when I what to hit Shift, I get Tilde...

Can I buy a replacement keyboard (and allow me to continue using my hard-won touch typing skills)? If so, can you suggest any websites?

Also, is it doable for a semi-normal guy like me or do I need some techie chap to have a go?

Finally, what might this cost?

Hmm tough questions,

#1 to find a keyboard my guess would be to contact some apple resellers in your area, and see if they have had any MacBooks come in for repair and the cost of repair was to high so they owner said Toss it in the bin

#2 as far as replacing the keyboard, its just a matter of locating the locking tabs, popping it open, and then pulling the cable out that connects the keyboard to the macbook, it should only take a few minutes to do.

#3 cost maybe a few bucks to the reseller for the keyboard, or a bit more, if you decode to have them do it for you.

kens right, just contact apple - maybe the genius bar - or an authorised apple re-seller and you should be able to get a replacement part. i have the black MacBook from the same time and had mine got replaced when the edges cracked, mine was replaced free as it was under apple care so can't give you an idea of costs
