Samsung Over Takes Apple In Oz And Nz

OK hands up who is letting the side down ? :angry:

Samsung has now overtaken Apple and grew for a third consecutive quarter in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) overall mobile phone market,

The smartphone market is now 65% of the total Australian mobile phone market, with Android taking over Apple iOS as no.1 position holding 49% market share. Apple iOS, in second place, holds 36% unit share as the market eased in preparation for the new iPhone 4S launched in October 2011.

Even though these stats might be true I find hard to believe. It seems when I'm out an about I reckon 9 out of 10 people I see are using iPhones.

With the growing middle class in China and India the company that comes up with a cheaper smart phone with all the bells and whistles would position themselves to be the major player in the smart phone market.

I agree Jamie. All I see are iPhones and maybe 1 or 2 Android devices on my train trip into the city each morning.

Also I've only ever seen 1 Motorolla Zoom tablet and 2 Samsung Galaxy Tablets in the 5 months I have been traveling on the train to the city. All the others are iPads.

Yes I am a sad case whereby I notice what devices people are using..:)

Probably depends a lot in the groups of people you come across.. I posted ages ago how at a meeting I'd noted there were more iphones as a one brand phone in the group then all other types I saw combined. That was some time ago.
I would say from casual observation in my work area it would be now close to 50-50. Perhaps a little bias still to iphones but the older ones.. 3GS & 4. The non apple type phones I most commonly see now are Samsung Galaxy S2.

When I ask the owners why they choose the Samsung I got the same answer every single time.. Because of the bigger screen. Some were ex iphone users and some were first time smartphone owners who had no expereince with either platform.
