BM, by then the major rush will have ended and you shouldn't have any problems. I'm having similar problems to others - server load is all, I think. Just be aware that for iCloud to work on the Mac you need the latest point update to Lion. I had to update Aperture as well - although I must say Photostream wasn't advertised as working with it so I am extremely happy it does!

10:30 and still wading through this, I pad done after restore now the iPhone just refuses to work at all, every time it does the system restore it crashes out right at the last second and it's back to square one.

I am just about to leave home for the weekend, no phone = no iPad connection.....

I want to be  with my iOS devices.....
"Reality distortion field" mine is still distorted....

Mick I hear ya... As you read I had a major issue but it magically corrected itself.

I'm now worried as I still have my iPad to do.

If I wasn't such a huge fan of Apple, I would have thrown my iPhone in the bin this morning..;)

Its our own fault though... It's better to wait until the servers aren't overloaded.

I was wondering about Photostream with Aperture. So glad it works.

I wish I was at home to set this all up...:)

So Jamie... Can you answer this for me.

I currently am using an Apple ID for my iTunes account.

My mobile me ID is different to my iTunes ID.

How have you set up your iTunes ID and your Mobile Me/iCloud ID??

I should have listened to Ken and waited to see what experiences others had before attempting to download.
During the installation i was unable to continue due to a 3014 code error, thats fine, but at the same time all my data crashed on the iPad. My next step was to attempt a restore but during the verifying Firmware stage another error code 3004 occurred.
When i contacted the Apple help call centre they decided that i should wait till later this evening to attempt another restore because of the heavy traffic load.

So lets say your Apple Id was: JZ@gmail.com for your iTunes account. What is it for your iCloud account?

Becuase with Mobile Me, my Apple ID had to be for example Brian@me.com, I couldn't make it Brian@gmail.com.

Am I safe to say that both your Apple IDs are the me.com ones??

Here's a classic story:

I got into work at 1pm.... took out my work iPad plugged it into my Dell laptop...yes a PC...opened up iTunes on my PC.... and downloaded and upgraded to iOS 5 without a hitch in less than 25 minutes.

While it all crashed on me this morning at home on my Mac with my iPhone.

Hmmmm.... either the Apple servers has calmed down....or it's a conspiracy by Apple to make us go and buy the new iPhone 4S which already has iOS 5 installed....:-)

did TL hack your account Brian?

You guys were all downloading in the peak time. mine was smooth as. i did it 5:45 and had no dramas. once most of the traffic dies down it will be a breeze to install. just remember you had people setting up iPhone 4S, people downloading iOS 5, downloading iCloud, all the updates to all the Apple Apps as well as third party apps. OS X update. Yes they have those big servers but thats a lot of traffic.

+ there was an Apple TV update too.

You can have separate iTunes and iCloud accounts, but you'll need to check the help files for that as mine are the same. Once you've chosen your iCloud address you can't change it. And they're not merging older inactive Mobile Me accounts which is a pity because I can't use my old one - just wanted the name at me.com.

I can't believe that Apple still won't let you use your own mail address, has to be me.com. I have my own domain. This makes iCloud mail useless to me, still. Pity because it's so much cleaner than Gmail.

Thanks Alex...

Still a little bit confused.

My Mobile Me ID was my me.com email address.... So can you now select an iCloud ID that doesn't have to be a me.com email address?

i guess you could start a new iCloud account if you wanted to. but it all transfers over easy enough. i used to have a different apple id once before an i just authorise my computer to use the older accounts. i've been using .Mac/ MobileMe for years so most of my iTunes stuff is form the one account just some music with my older accounts. (if that makes sense)

if it was me brian i'd just merge my MobileMe account to iCloud and start using it for iTunes too.

Thanks Jamie.

My plan is to Merge my Mobile Me account with iCloud. So that means my iCloud Apple ID will be my me.com email address.

Unfortunately though, when I created my iTunes account I used a different ID being my gmail email address and there is no way to change that ID to your me.com Apple ID. You can change it to any other email address, just not your me.com one.

I'm not sure why... It's annoying.

But it all links together in the end....so I suppose it doesn't matter. I just wanted all my Apple IDs to be related to Apple and so I could ditch the gmail ID. But it can't be done.

you can ditch the gmail account. i have used 2 different mail accounts before my .mac/ me address. i just authorise my mac to accept all accounts. it still syncs to your iPhone iPad etc. just purchase everything from now on through your me.com address. trust me it ll works, i had an old optusnet email i bought a few albums on and they still work fine, i even have a US account that syncs too. if you need any directions/ help just message me and i'll guide you through it.

so to make simple - I have have/ had 3 iTunes accounts - they all sync to main iTunes - on my Mac - i sync all of them to any device with no problems.

Hi, I have read somewhere in the blurbs about iCloud that you will only be able to change the account that you device syncs to every 90 days. I have been wondering if that means it will also only let you play media purchased on that one iTunes account now. I currently have three and as you say the media that I purchase in each works even after I log into another. It at the minimum effectily stop us swapping between accounts ... I'd AU to US accounts regularly.

Unfortunately gestures only work on the iPad.. Not the iPhone.

A bit disappointing because they work so beautifully on the iPad.
