It looks like apple are about to update, there cinema displays today, with thunderbolt ports, as of 5 minutes ago, the app store flags up an error on all cinema displays, but everything else on the store works perfectly.

Even though Brian doesn't care, here's the story about the new LED displays we posted this morning.

The good news for you, though Brian, is that the LED Cinema Displays featured the Lion wallpaper, so the Big Cat's got to be arriving pretty bloody soon...

Yeah, they're a bit of alright, aren't they? But how did they get that camera into space?

O Apple! Is there anything you can't do?

Ask Mr Edwin Hubble, he's had some things named after him, or was that the "Job's Scope" looking for the white iPhone and found that?

The dirty old Hubble? Well, it's definitely not the iPhone 4 camera they're shooting it on... iPhone 5?

I've got a current model Mac Pro (ie, no Thunderbolt) and have been waiting for the Cinema displays to be refreshed so I can trade up from my current crappy Dell monitor, only to find that the new displays are Thunderbolt only. So just to confirm, I cant use this new display with my 6-month old $4500 MacPro?? Not happy.

So do you think Apple will refresh the non-Thunderbolt displays now, or is that the end of the line for that product? and any chance of a Minidisplay port - Thunderbolt adapter?? What do people think?

Hi media-sorcerer,

It's our understanding that the older mini display ports will work on the new Thunderbolt cinema display. It's the same connection port, so it'll definitely fit. Apple's only selling Thunderbolt cables now (which have a chip in them to help speed up data transfer) that even older Mac users have to use to connect to their screens.

We don't think it'll be a problem.

I spoke with an Apple sales rep yesterday and he advised that the new display would NOT work with my 6-month old Mac Pro and its mini display port, and that I would have to buy the older model display. It costs them a sale, as I'm not willing to pay the same price for a model with some inferior features (connections/camera). So if people know for a fact that is incorrect, please us know.

Fair enough. We'll look into it and get back to you, Vulch.

Seems very strange, I must say.
