OS install via App Store?

I have 3 computers that I will apply this to - will I have to download it 3 times, or do I just have to download it once? I am happy to pay for 3 copies, just would prefer to only download 4GB, not 12.
Is the software authorised in a similar way to iTunes purchases? I haven't bought software through the App Store yet, not sure how this works. What happens if you de-authorise the computer, does the OS stop working?
What happens if it chokes and dies mid install? I'm used to making a full backup before upgrading an OS. If things don't work I just wipe the drive and start again from the install discs before doing a restore from the backup - I'm guessing that won't work - and I'm not particularly keen to go through installing the previous version of the OS from the DVDs I have onto a clean HD, then updating it to get the App store back, then downloading the 4GB again before I can see if its going to work this time.
Me, I would happily pay extra to have a physical media version, even a flash drive, for an OS install.

Im not really worried about a 4G download, I'm lucky and close enough to the city for that - just seems stupid to have to download it 3 times for 3 different computers. I'm happy to pay for multiple copies, not all the computers are on the same iTunes account anyway, would be happy to know I could download it and copy it across my network.
Of my concerns the download impact is the least of them, the choke and die on install is way bigger.

Hmm... Good point. To register for an iTunes account you need a credit card. Perhaps people could use Debit Cards to register if they don't have a credit card.

Cool... I never knew that. It was so long ago that I set up an iTunes account.
If you set up a US account that way, can you just enter a random valid US address??
