Reimagined BSG FTW! Star Wars was the best until they made eps 1-3. Utter rubbish.

Rubbish doesn't even begin to describe the prequels. It was just George Lucas wanting more money.

Yep utter rubbish indeed. Star Wars was the first film I ever saw and those three films were a large part of my childhood. In our school games of 'tag' in the playground at lunchtimes were Star Wars themed ;)

Don't know what Mr.Lucas was thinking with the last three, but he's no longer on my Christmas card list!

the thing people forget is they saw the original movies when they were either kids or very young, ask any kids these days and they love the prequels. if we had of been the same age as the we were when we saw the original films i guarantee you'd all love them, don't forget we've all grown up for thirty years or so with these movies. they never went away so they never seem old or cheesy. i love all six films, actually i consider one long movie of the rise and fall of vader.

I hadn't forgot I saw them when I was younger, sadly I'm acutely aware of how old I am ;)

I guess now I am older though I can recognize things like poor casting decisions and special effects taking over the story telling.

Glad you liked them, truly wish I did, but I don't.

which is kinda my point

had you seen the movies when you were a kid you would not have even considered those things

and original trilogy used special effects to tell the story, in fact the opening scene of A New Hope was the a star destroyer floating into the scene, and the actors were nothing special (aside from Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness)

My now 14 year old son agrees the first three were mostly rubbish (we agree the third was the best of them).

Brian, you're right that the first one really wasn't much to write home about - it was ground breaking at the time. OTOH, The Empire Strikes Back was widely acclaimed for bettering A New Hope. But that doesn't make the new ones any good! The dialogue is painful at times. Jar Jar is universally panned as a bad character. Anakin and Padme's relationship - really? Do I need to say more? I enjoy Sci Fi. I grew up with the original Battlestar Galactica but prefer the reimagined series (which is to say, I'm not just being nostalgic).

O and Star Trek, with James T Kirk and Spock is still the best scifi show.

Star Trek was the best of the lot of them, see Ken & I can agree, for a second or two. Be it nano.....
