What a pain...having to buy a Light Peak docking station just so you can plug your USB peripherals.

There may be good news on this front, Brian(?) While scanning Twitter this morning the little gem below appeared. I guess we'll hear more about this in the next few days – "a simple adapter" sounds far more preferable to a Docking Station! I'll keep an eye out for further details.

Thanks Gazza, that's great news...

I have to say i am a little underwhelmed by the MBP update... I was hoping for a radical new design and something more. It's just new processors, graphics and 'Thunderstruck"........I still want one though.

If you bought the previous model, i don't think you would be rushing out to put it on eBay, to up grade to the new model, the specs are boring.

Well, I have a Time Capsule, so I guess there is not going to be any lighting trikes around me, until I upgrade my iMac, and thats going to be a while.

I fond the MBP refresh disappointing. The only change over the previous versions is the processor and Thunderwhatever. I expected Apple to at least increase the screen resolution as per the 13-inch MBA. The lack of such a feature means that I will, once again, avoid the 13-inch MBP.

The only Thunderbolt I know was a bushranger who's sole intent was taking money off passing strangers.

Surely not.....

nah....

Cheers,

You said it,exactly, thats a bloody disgrace having that res on the 13,it's not only cheap and stingy of them,it's a direct assault on the consumer,i wont have one either because of that, and 1680x1050 should be standard on 15 too,

GREEDY. im writing to steve over this,im serious.!!!

Can you explain to me what the issue is with the screen res.

The higher the screen res, the smaller things are and harder to read.... So why is higher res better?

Have a look at the screen res on the 13 inch mba,i have had 1650x1080 and 1440x 900 on mbpros and the hi res looks better, things are not really harder to read in my opinion jamie, there easier because we have better clarity[more pixel density],the mba 11 has 1366x768,and u can read stuff just fine, its sharper and clearer than 1280x800 on 13,considering they put 1366x768 on mba 11,dont you think they should have better res too for the 13,?ps,hope u r well, love chatting here with you and everyone else too,its great and a privelage.a good mob of folks, with good minds.i like .

The size issue can be a problem, but the some apps have a large number of menus. Installing such apps on a 13-inch MBP is pointless as it can't display them all.

Makes sense but I've never had an issue on my original white MacBook though.

I'm just glad we are (hoping) to move on finally from USB, yes it is fine for mouses and printers, but hard drives and video editing or moving large video files its just arcane (ditto USB 3), and that name "Thunderbolt" agggh..lightspeed would have been more worthy, i'm sick of looking at hard drives with just USB 2.0 connections (It means just very slow), and paying a premium for "Firewire" connectors, Thunderbolt or not, I hope it quickly becomes the standard, to be able to mix "firewire" will mean not throwing away valuable drives either.....Welcome to the Future......Finally.

Apple will continue to use USB for a few years yet to complement Thunderbolt, much as it complements FireWire. USB is still useful for connecting printers and thumb drives for which Thunderbolt, like FireWire before it, is just overkill. Printers are very slow devices.
