I tried to get a bit of a competition going here but let's see what sort of response we get first, what my idea is, over a period of a month (might even make it a week)
we pick a topic (Gardening to start off) and those who are interested, post up your pictures, you can have multiple entries, just post up your best.....

Mick

So starting the thread, here is Lisa's Canna Lilly

Here's a Lotus flower in the pond by our front door.

Sorry, there doesn't seem to be a way of embedding full size! (and no I'm not going to upload it to Flickr!)

Not sure if it has to be your own garden - this was taken on a Tulip farm in Victoria a few years back.

Hiya Rach, your flowering bulb's botanical name is Hippeastrum (pronounced "hippy-astrum"), sometimes erroneously referred to as Amarylis. One common name in Oz is "flame lily."

They are gorgeous large trumpet flowers which unfortunately are on display for such a short time.

Just in case you don't know be careful of snails and slugs (a few pellets around the stem do the trick)they love to eat all parts of the plant and a beautiful flower can disappear overnight! In winter protect the pot with bulb from frosts.

Here are a couple from my garden. Like many flowering plants the flowers are short lived and the plant structure is basically quite ordinary the rest of the year!

The first is of a low growing plant with pretty little blue flowers:- Devon Skies.

The second is an orchid.

There is some really great pictures coming in here, just keep them going, I will try and venture into the garden tomorrow and find something to get up. Stubzie you have some great shots, i have had bougainvillea,

up to my ears and think it should be eradicated like lantana should be, look what happens when all that lot get out of control.....Lantan grows like buggery, and the dreaded Bougainvillea, well it can grow some

mean thorns, ask my wife & my ride-on mower

Mick, i have one that has been trained in the espalier form, others in the garden trimmed into different shapes and a fairly large collection of ones that have been trained in Bonsai pots.
I would imagine that where you live they would be a real pest if allowed to grow unchecked.

It was Actually out in the South West of BNE, Cedarvale, we had 25 acres out there and the people we purchased from, she loved them, and it had taken me quite a few years to eradicate the Bougainvilleas permanently! I will never forget the countless thorns, scratches, flat tyres, from the mongrel things. Lisa had a spike break off in one of her metacarpal joints, still there......
