OK, Apple have pleasantly surprized me...

They have just posted the Macworld Expo 2008 Keynote as a Podcast to iTunes

Beware is a MASSIVE 890MB file.

Apple did the same thing last year. Why the surprise?

Sounds about as exciting as watching grass grow, i prefer to come in here and read all the updates without all of Steves demo's and dog and pony show.

It was the first keynote i've watched. I'm glad everyone said it's one of the quietest, because I was underwhelmed. Steve trying to hype the crowd, which clearly was buying.

Is the 2007 one still available? If it is, grab that one -- the iPhone announcement. That had them cheering.

Of course, none of them have been as dramatic as the 1997 Boston keynote where Steve fired the entire Board of Directors. No, really, he did. Name another company that has such a public airing of its corporate dirty laundry.

What about the one where he bought Bill Gates up on the big screen to the shock horror of the crowd when he announced he was dumping 250 mill in.

Again, that was Boston 1997. Heck of a keynote.

Oh, and for the record it was only $US150 million -- 6 percent of Apple's market capitalisation at the time, in non-voting stock. Yet the way it was reported you'd easily have thought Microsoft had just bought Apple, or at least a very significant chunk of it.

I agree the 2007 keynote was great with the announcement of iPhone and the cheering of the crowd, I was just surprised to see the 2008 keynote as podcast since they haven't done any of the WWDC or Special Event keynotes since MacWorld 07.

I clicked on that link, but keep getting the same error msg about not being able to complete the download, because the item is not yet available in Australian iTunes store.

Oh, what's a hundred million between friends!!

There is quite a bit of chat about on how Steve "has lost weight, did not look well, didn't engage in his usual upbeat razzamatazz, handed over an amazing amount of the keynote to other presenters, etc etc." Any thought those of you who have seen previous keynotes?

Many of the keynotes are available on youtube. You should see Steve in 84! Geek or not geek? Geek. But hasn't he aged well and developed character. I loved his Grad speech at Stanford and it beat the speech at my sons grad this year by a mile.
Any Apple presentation would not be the same without Steve.

There's been a few more shared presentations over the last few years. I couldn't quote you any specific ones, but some of the other main heads are starting to get a public showing.

I would expect to see that increase over time, as there are many influential journos and analysists who insist Apple is dead in the water without Steve.

For "the Market" they will have to prove that Apple has a line of succession to make sure the share price doesn't crash and burn when Steve steps down
