Aaaaaanyway, TL, I'm sure you're aware that Apple released a press release this morning stating that they're releasing a software patch to rectify the issue.

(and, last I checked, yes, many cars require premium unleaded...)

Yes, I plan to buy iPhone 4 and it will be my first iPhone. Can't wait! I will be upgrading from Moto to iPhone 4. There are so many new features that make it compelling, such as the face time video chat, and the 5mp camera.

I'm from WA and Labor is too right wing for me. :P

Keen to get an iPhone 4. As I always am. But that enthusiasm tends to fall away when I explain the financial cost to myself in real-world terms. But Telstra's pricing isn't too bad this time around.
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.

At those kinds of prices I'm sorely tempted. My 3G is almost out of contract, but more to the point, that age of its battery is really starting show. I was going to get it replaced but at those contract prices I'm not sure it's worth it. (Mind you, I am on an Optus $19 cap, which isn't much but usually enough if I'm careful, so I'd be paying more than I am now but be able to use it more as well.)

The only questions is, which network!? I've been happy with Optus, unlike many. Optus are slightly more generous with allowances, but Telstra has a far better network. Voda is somewhere in between, but I have no experience with their network. 3 is hopeless out here and I made the mistake of putting my wife onto it, but if I went with Voda it would mean free calls to her phone.

Anyone have any thoughts regarding the network reliability, speed and customer service of these carriers?

Don't think I'll be lining up though. I'll order and wait when I'm ready to jump.

Well, I haven't really heard positive things about Optus anywhere - by all reports their network is super slow, so if you're happy to live with that then go ahead!

Voda: Last time I saw someone with a phone on Voda around my town, they had immense trouble finding anywhere with signal, so not the best coverage.

Three isn't a great idea outside urban centres either - it roams onto Telstra's network (=expensive roaming) or Voda's (which doesn't work anyway).

Leaving Telstra.

Hi,

Yes, I'm getting an iPhone 4 this Friday. Regarding to antenna issue, I don't think that all phones 4 has the same
problem Or everyone who purchased the iPhone 4 will be returning it. The only question is which carrier do I pick.
If u not sure just go to the Apple retail store and try it out and see if they fix the antenna issue.

Interesting re Optus. I hear that and I haven't got anything to compare it to (only 3G network I've used). May not be blazingly fast, but I've never had any real issues with it. Just discovered that Voda is no better than 3 where I am (which is almost non-existent), so that leaves O or T. BTW, 3 roaming is expensive for data, but included in the cap for voice and text. Believe me, I know! Fortunately iOS4 lets you turn off data so unexpected surprises are less likely.

Thanks for the feedback though, I may yet make the jump.

I live in Sydney and to be honest there isn't a real problem with the OPTUS 3G network...i don't find it slow....the issue i have with OPTUS is that their coverage sux. In places where Telstra works fine...I get no signal with OPTUS..... also their 3G coverage also drops out in places and defaults to the 2G network which can be annoying.

This mainly happens in car parks, lifts etc..... but I have been in places where there should be a perfect 3G signal and it's non-existant. What's even more annoying is that if I move to the back of my house I get 2G reception, then if I move to the front of my house I get 3G reception....so the OPTUS network is very sketchy and not all that reliable....but in terms of speed on the 3G network I haven't really had an issue.

Telstra is definitely far superior and you get reception basically everywhere...car parks, lifts...and so on.

But as my contract runs out on the 16th of August and because i can't wait, I think I will be signing up with them again...even though I don't want to as you can renew with OPTUS if you are within your last 3 months of your contract.
