The second in our series of $US300 challenges addresses photography. I was struck by the lack of image-editing tools (for example, Picturesque) or similar single-purpose apps, apart from the panorama stitcher, that let you do amazing things with your pictures. Also, no mention of the free Web sites that let you do silly or amazing things with your pictures.
Anybody want to fill in some blanks?

Well, at the risk of insulting our US brethren, that was a pretty ordinary effort. IMHO, HP makes some great printers, but the more you go toward their lower end offering, the flakier they get.
As for image editing tools, a search at the venerable Hyperjeff site, using "Graphics" as a category, with "All Licenses" and "Intel" as search filters, revealed 159 apps. The same search, but filtered with "Freeware" returned 46 apps. Have a look for yourself at:
http://osx.hyperjeff.net/Apps/apps?sub=9&a...mp;w=3&u=on
Now, not all those apps will appeal to everyone. Some of those apps are ordinary. Some are over-priced. Some are of limited functionality - such as iPhoto Matrix Edit, which provides a means to expand iPhoto's metadata editability. (Careful with that one, it's a hack.)
But I believe if you look hard enough, there's plenty out there. And if you keep an eye on MacUpdate bundles, you can get some very good image editing software, such as Lightzone, at a bargain price.
