Sony is running a promotion in the US whereby it's offering Ghostbusters via YouTube to commemorate the movie's 25th anniversary (and, no doubt, to stir up buzz for the forthcoming Ghostbusters 3 movie).

In what has come to be the usual way of things, Australians and others outside the US are banned from seeing it due to licensing restrictions or somesuch. Of course, they're still happy to show us the ads.

This all said, would you watch an ad-subsidised feature film via YouTube? Or do you prefer to download and buy your movies?

We'll be restricted from seeing it because the advertisers will be US based and unlikely to have any advantage for other countries to have access.

Or a commercial channel here owns the rights.

I think I'd prefer to download and buy. Would consider Youtube, but just not sure about 90 minutes (or whatever) at low quality. Didn't know a GB3 was coming out. Do we know who's in it? Are the original cast coming out of their retirement facilities?

It looks as though it is the original cast, according to IMDB.com. However, they also included this note:

It did look a bit like they just grabbed a few cast members from their other listings, though Rick Moranis was only 'rumoured' and there was no Sigourney Weaver.

Download to rent or buy. YouTube quality stinks on the big screen

I can't view it here in Japan either, nor any of the other shows that are advertised, it says, "This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions."
