What does everyone think will be announced at the keynote in January?

My list is predictable:
  • • iLife '09
  • • iWork '09
  • • Updated iMacs (with mini DisplayPort)
  • • An updated Mac mini
  • • Updated Mac Pro (also with mini DisplayPort)
  • • Updated 30" Apple Cinema Display with LED backlighting and mini DisplayPort

I wouldn't be surprised if a 32GB iPhone was announced.

If they update the Mac Pro, it will be the week before the keynote just like last year.

I'm hoping for an Apple TV update as I have held off buying one.

More Vendors Downsizing or Withdrawing from Macworld SF 2009?

AppleInsider claims that following Adobe's withdrawl from exhibiting at Macworld San Francisco, both Belkin and Seagate will also not be exhibiting. Belkin historically has been one of Macworld's biggest exhibitors.

The move is deemed especially surprising for Belkin, which has not only been one of Macworld Expo's largest exhibitors in the past but is believed to have already paid for its booth space this year, people aware of the situation say.

Meanwhile, Google is said to be downsizing their booth size as well as a couple of other unnamed vendors.

While the worsening economy is cited as the likely reason, much of the cost for the spaces have reportedly already been collected. Regardless, as a result, they expect Macworld 2009 to be a smaller show than last year. MacRumors, of course, will be present to provide coverage of the show. Apple is expected to introduce new products at the event which kicks off on January 5th, 2009.

I think the iMacs will get LED Backlighting, as in the 24" Cinema Display.

Will there definitely be an iLife (and iWork) '09?

Maybe it will be skipped like iLife '07! smile.gif

Apple will unveil netbooks next month, says analyst

Well the predictions are flying in earnest with less than a month to go!! Here's an intriguing one from a ComputerWorld writer via UK MacWorld.

Apple will introduce two netbooks at the MacWorld Conference and Expo next month that will be tied to the company's App Store, as is its iPhone, an analyst said today.

The problem with producing a netbook though was that if it was simply a stripped-down MacBook, Apple ran the risk of cannibalising sales of its higher-priced, and higher-margin, notebooks. .......Apple, in effect, needs something completely different........

.......like the company's iPhone, the netbooks will exist in an Apple-controlled "closed system" where software is delivered via the App Store, device restore is done from iTunes, backup is available through an optional online service, most likely MobileMe, and peripheral and add-on choices will be limited.

You can access the whole story at UK MacWorld and analyse the writer's basis for such a predictions.

According to AppleInsider:

Apple announced Tuesday that next month is the last time the company will exhibit at Macworld Expo in San Francisco and that chief executive Steve Jobs will not be making a keynote presentation this year.

I always look forward to Steve Jobs giving this keynote, a bit of a shame. This years keynote will be by Philip Schiller.

The ComputerWorld writer's prediction in my post above was way off the mark!!!

Well, I guess this is the last year of Macworld, then. I can understand if it's not a real commercial benefit to these companies, and these things have their lifespan, but it's such an institution that it's still kinda sad.

SF Macworld was the best advertising Apple ever had, without Steve Jobs nobody will bat an eye (No offence Mr Schiller), and I don't understand companies, at this time of bad economic times they need to get out there and sell their product instead they are running into their houses and shutting the doors, come on people, get with it..we still need our computers and do dahs.
With no Steve don't expect any real new surprises like Snow Leopard?.... a New Mac Mini...thrilling!

I think Steve Jobs may be feeling a bit of accomplishment at what he has created, but nonetheless will be looking to get out of the position at some point -- this may be as good a time as any. There will no doubt also be rumours about whether this is a career move or one driven by his health. This keynote may be a test as to how well Apple can hold interest without Steve up there. Schiller may be heir apparent, but will he have the charisma to keep Apple's products sexy?

Yeah, that's my feeling about the matter also, as I've stated in other posts. People keep talking about iLife 09 and iWork 09 like they are fait accompli but I don't know where they are getting their info from. I don't have any info about it not being released, I just haven't seen or heard anywhere (except for forums) about 09 iterations of the suites. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Let the speculations about Steve Jobs' health commence. I find it interesting that he wouldn't be there for the last Apple keynote.
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.
