Does anyone know whether this works for music. I purchased a couple of songs previosuly and had the computer die on my (completely - thanks Vista), and I don't really want to spend the money again, if I don't have to

Like Xenophos I'm pretty sure you have to pay for music downloads a second, or more, times. I just tried it with an album I purchased recently and itunes was going to charge for the (re-)purchase, whereas with an App it tells you that you have already purchased and asks if you want to download again. Sorry Bungs.

Even though I'm aware of this, and Apple strongly recommend you burn to CD, it still kind of sucks. You'd think with the ability to track your purchases, they could run a similar system to apps. Perhaps the royalty licensing as ancient as it probably is, prevents it. Radio stations for example have to pay every time a song is played. Maybe downloads are the same.

Unless the X is in actual fact XXX. I presume this scheme is download music/albums you own as many times as you like for X dollars.

If it was all you can eat for X dollars, I'd be in grabbing all the old albums I never bought CDs for. I've been listening to my Led Zep collection the last few days in the car. The joys of a CD stacker. I've hit the point where I don't actually need the CDs anymore. I've got the tunes humming through my head most of the day.

"My, my, my, I'm so happy, I'm gonna join the band."

I think the rumour is Apple will be adding a subscription service. You can use it as long as you're subscribed. If you cancel the subscription, you lose the music.

If as the article suggestions, it's only a little dearer than a MM subscription, I think I'd be pretty interested. A lot will depend on what they offer. Half the iTunes library could mean everything except stuff you'd actually want! ohmy.gif

Imagine if you could subscribe for movies and music. I'd probably be in like Flynn. Maybe even buy an AppleTV; though I can't see what it can do, that the Mac mini doesn't already. Bearing in mind we don't have a HDTV.

Being a rumor, I don't think I'll hold my breath. Apple rumors never seem quite as concrete as PC ones. A lot seem to be pure fantasy if not wishful thinking.

This is very true Davo, with the amount rumors running around about what apple will and wont do with itunes, is mind boggling. But you never know steve and the boys might surprise us one day, i can see it being this day, as itunes is so huge it just blows every competitor out of the water, but one day that may change and they may have to sweeten the deal.

I think the secret of their success to date, is nearly everything they do and design is simple. People can make it work intuitively. My 2yo can browse photos on the touch. He just saw me swipe my fingers and thought to himself, "I can do that"

Both of them think it's a great joke to move things on the screen when I'm trying to read or type. Little fingers coming at me from every direction the second I try to browse. Their thing now is making animated movies with their toys smile.gif

I don't think they'll wait until then. They want to stay ahead of the pack. They're the market innovators, not catcher-upers.

I am not to sure, Xenophos... as they are the market leader by a long long way, and itunes is a major cash cow for them, i cant see them playing around with it to much until people lose interest in it, or something comes out that gives them a real run for there money.

Apple barely breaks even with iTunes itself; the real profit comes from the sale device that support it.

So you are coming at it from a different angle Mick, make itunes cheaper and sell my ipods? interesting thought indeed. I see where you are coming from.

It's not really where I'm coming from, it's where Apple is coming from in using iTunes as a vehicle to the really profitable part of the business.
