I've got this error recently appearing, when syncing. Since latest iphone upgrade. Running latest itunes.
Apple have to sort this ASAP...especially given some recent apps I purchased were not backed up properly (even though I thought they were) and after I deleted them in an attempt to get syncing working again, the itunes "check for purchases" trick did nothing! Lost purchases! Ouch Apple OUCH!

Lex, even if you didnt have a back up, the minute you select the app that you have purchased via the Iphone its self, it will bring up a message saying you have already purchased this app, and download it again for you no charge.

then simply sync the iphone to the mac in the normal way and you will have an automatic back up.

To test my theory without spending any more money, simply down load a FREE app from the app store, play it for 10 seconds, then delete it. Now go back to the app store select the same app again and download it, you will automatically get a message telling you, that you have already purchased the app, and it will download it again for nothing.

Try it out, for yourself.

Yep, Lex I'll vouch for TL's suggestion, once you've purchased the App you never have to pay for it again and can download at will. You may have to do a full restore of your iPhone OS and Apps to clear the error situation and the problems you have with syncing. See this link for info on how best to go about this.

Hope you work it out soon, gazza

As even more evidence over an above my esteemed friends here, when I upgraded my iPod touch using the same Apple store account, on the next sync, it copied all my apps to the touch. Some had been bought through app store, others iTunes. I was stoked because it saved me trying to work out how I might go about it.

Thanks everyone for suggestions. Got the apps back via reloading onto the iphone. But sync still doesn't work properly. Now that I have deleted and reloaded my apps, the annoying 0xE800002E message is now gone (what does it mean anyhow??), but the apps don't seem to be visible in the applications section of itunes (I've tried sync and "transfer purchases from iphone). There not in the music/itunes/mobile applications folder. So where are they? I have my music stored off the mac on a NAS and point the itunes library at that (via the advanced setting)..but I can't find them on the NAS either (original older apps files are in the correct place on my mac, but not the new ones I redownloaded today.) So where might itunes now store app files if you've moved your music library???. Have things changed with the 2.0.2 upgrade? Some more help would be appreciated!

Not quite so fast TL. You'd better read the original thread before you get too excited. Option 2 was met with some colourful language involving procreation and travel that can not be repeated here laugh.gif

As smooth as the process is, it's still a royal pain in the nether regions smile.gif Twice in one month is probably a little too frequent for me.

The apps are stored in the backups that occur every time you sync unless you switch them off. I had a lot of trouble get to grips with the idea that anything I purchased via App Store on the iPhone, didn't show up in the Applications section of iTunes. My main concern initially would be how to get those "hidden" apps across to my iPod Touch.
As noted above however, I needn't have worried.

I'd still prefer to see apps listed in iTunes, irrespective of where they were bought. Just for reference sake. Maybe enough people will freak out about it for them to change it.

Thanks for help Davo. Invaluable. I'm glad they are all backed up. But I still don't get it! Am I daft or something??? Why would software be so "add hoc". There seems to be no reason as to where the apps appear. I have some visible in the itunes applications section (I agree they should all be visible here), but others not seen here. I have some as .ipa files in the mobile applications folder, but not others. Some apps have neither a .ipa file OR are visible in itunes. Seems totally random... I'd love to be able to see them all in one place...like music files...or is this asking to much? After all I paid for a lot of them. What is going to happen when my app library pushes 100! Total chaos. Can anyone explain to me what is going on? Is this a Leopard issue (that Apple needs to fix), or is it dictated by the individual apps themselves?

All my apps are now listed in iTunes after the factory restore as noted here. How and why I'm not sure. It doesn't take away from the fact as I purchase more apps, they won't appear in iTunes if I buy them via the phone.

It will be interesting to see what happens when I sync the IPT, which has some games purchased via App Store, then plug in the iPhone. My interest is to see whether the apps copy across or whether it only happens on full restores.

It's all a little difficult to manage.

It seems to be a mistake on Apple's part that Apps purchased via the iPhone are not listed in iTunes during a sync. I've found that music purchased on my iPt appears in a separate section/folder in my iTunes after a sync, indicating that the file was purchased using the iPt rather than iTunes on the Mac - why shouldn't this same scenario apply to Apps??

Why even put it in a separate folder. I don't care how I bought it. Having a purchased folder is okay; purely for the sake of reference, but a purchased folder for each device seems pointless.

Do you find it useful Gazza?

Nah, Davo it doesn't need to be in a separate folder at all, BUT I would rather it be there than not appear at all like you have found with the apps.

Phew! Cold sweat. I'm pretty sure my touch is still on 2.01. I won't be upgrading it.

If I don't happen across the thread where we were talking about typing speed, I tried typing on the Touch tonight and it performs as slow as the iPhone. Maybe Gazza's fingers just don't move as fast as mine. The device seriously can't keep up. Backspacing large blocks of data is a disaster.

sorry to give you the bad news but I am typing this "bloody fast" on the iPod touch and there is no problem with the text input keeping up. Just for a test before typing this I chose one of your lengthy posts Davo and just sat on the delete button - it went like a rocket! Single letters first then whole words NO freezes!!! When I lifted my finger the backspacing stopped as I wanted it to. I have done each of the updates as they came out, now on 2.0.2, and have NOT had the need to do a restore ever! Something is very strange!

Does anyone know whether this works for music. I purchased a couple of songs previosuly and had the computer die on my (completely - thanks Vista), and I don't really want to spend the money again, if I don't have to

I don't think so - once it's downloaded that's it, they expect you to back up. I was surprised (pleasantly) it's different with apps. Don't know about movies/tv.
