Not sure how many people used the iWork.com service, i did and thought it was great but it seems it will end with all the MobieMe services too

Posted ImagePosted ImageDear iWork.com user,

Thanks for participating in the iWork.com public beta.

Last year, we launched iCloud, a service that stores your music, photos, documents and more, and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. Today, there are already over 40 million documents stored on iCloud by millions of iWork customers. Learn more about iCloud.

With this new way to share iWork documents between your devices using iCloud, the iWork.compublic beta service will no longer be available. As of 31 July 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web.

We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before 31 July 2012, and download all your documents to your computer. For detailed instructions on how to save a copy of your documents on your computer, read this support article at Apple.com.

Sincerely,
The iWork teamPosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

This is going to sound pretty ignorant, coming from a long time Mac user, but is iWork ~ mobile me? I never used either of them (well I used mobile me for the free month trial or what ever it was ), and then dumped it. But I still have a company .me account I use occasionally, hence why I am curious, if they are one in the same ?

iWork.com was a service that never got out of beta, it was used to share documents and you could leave comments for each other, quite handy, but no not linked to MobileMe.

iWork the office apps is still available and yes i use it.

I am rather surprised, I never used it, in that case. But soon as you say iWork I think of the application suit, not an online service.

It allowed commenting but not editing online so was pretty limited. I tried to use it a few times but with pretty tech ignorant people so mostly just emailed docs! I'm not surprised they're closing it and think integration with iCloud makes perfect sense. They're doing it with the iPhoto app already. I'm guessing either Lion or new iWork for Mac apps will be released by July. Possibly both.
