Ha ha Brian. As usual I'm having no problems. I went through and set up all my podcasts to download automatically. One podcast did send me a pop messaging indicating that it needed to be downloaded over wi Fi. But other then that. The podcast app is my new favourite app!

Nup... Definitely buggy. There are loads of bad reviews on this App.
I wish it worked well...but it just doesn't.
I only watch video podcasts, and some of them just won't download through the App. Very disappointing.
I hope Apple fix the bugs quickly!

I know I'm harping here, but this App must be the worst that Apple has ever released.
I finally worked out a way to download the podcasts that said they couldn't be downloaded at this time.
I had to just search for them in the catalogue section, then press download there. Then when I flipped back to the subscribed podcast it was downloading.
But once they were downloaded, when I tapped on them to play the video podcasts, only the sound would play, not the video.
So I had to kill the App in the multi tasking dock, then reopen it and then the video played.
One word.... Buggy!!!!!

The app seems to work okay for me, but it is the slowest app I've ever seen. Once the app is launched it takes an eternity to do anything.
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.

Not specifically. Meant to be a number of better ones around.

i find i have to manually turn of the app and relaunch it to get it to work, when it does work it does just what i want, but when it gets temperamental it's the most annoying app i've ever used.

I have just downloaded a much better Podcast App than Apples offering, it's called 'Downcast' and it's simply brilliant. It costs $1.99 for a universal download, and it's exactly the way Apples Podcast App should work. I still can't believe they have stuffed that App up so badly. They develop iOS and OS X...surely they can program a simple little podcast App that works properly????
Anyway, the only limitation with Downcast is that it can only download Podcasts in the background when the phone is off for 10 minutes as that is a restriction imposed on developers by Apple. So that's a bit annoying as you have to turn on your phone and open Downcast to get it to continue downloading podcasts in the background, but it does alert you via a text message when the time has expired and it also notfies you when all podcasts have been downloaded and if new podcasts are available.
It's pretty cool. Apple should just buy this App and rebrand it!

All this talk of podcasts has lead me to believe that they may be something I would like. I used to enjoy Thank God It's Friiday (ABC 702kHz)on the way home from work years ago, so I have been doing some research.
It seems that there are at least 3 better apps than Podcasts: Downcast (complex, cheap), Instacast (less complex and more expensive) and Pocket Cast (good for beginners, cheap, no iCloud sync).
I have downloaded and played with Podcast, but wouldn't have bothered if I had read BrianB's comments first. I will download and try each of the above alternatives one by one unless advised otherwise. Perhaps there is another one that some one might recommend?
So far I have discovered that audio podcasts can take a while to download (especially if Podcasts gets confused), that they are not cheap to download via 3G, and consume more battery than normal. The most important discovery was that I really enjoy the ones that I have tried. Any suggestions are most welcome.
