Indeed. A purely æsthetic decision. Of course, I wouldn't buy the wireless keyboard either, and for precisely the same reason: it's an ergonomic disaster zone. Keyboards with folding legs that allow/encourage users to prop them up on an angle are bad enough; keyboards that give you no option but to use them in an upward sloping position are best avoided, no matter how nicely they match the rest of the hardware.

Apple keyboards including the wireless one are the flattest slimmest keyboards I've seen. And I used the track pad today and it's fine.

I guess we disagree on the definition of "flat" then. For me, a flat keyboard will have the number row at the same height from the desk as the space bar.

The Apple wireless keyboard is pitched at an angle of at least 10°.

I never said it's "completely" flat. I just said it's the flattest I know of. I don't know of any keyboard that's as slim or "flat" as Apples.

And by the way I don't need any pictures I own all the apple keyboards.

I think Apples keyboards are perfectly ergonomic... I use the wireless keyboard and it's beautiful to use.. I find a flat keyboard less ergonomic.. That's my personal preference. When ever I have used keyboards in the past with feet.. I always pitched them up so the keyboard was at an angle.

I like the Apple keyboard as well, but Thomasina is right, it's not ergonomic from a health POV. It encourages the typist to rest their wrists on the desk thus increasing curvature of the wrist which can exacerbate OOS/RSI type injuries. A horizontal keyboard encourages you to lift your wrists, thus straightening them. Apple isn't alone in this, but I don't think anyone can really argue that they aim for function over form.

I have a real issue with Apple's preference for aesthetics over ergonomics too. I've never used the new flat keyboard but it doesn't appeal to me. I don't mind my Apple keyboard, which is the chunkier previous generation (white plastic keys), but the keys don't have much tactile response.

As for other input devices, I can't stand Apple mice. I put up with my mighty mouse for a couple of years before I got sick of the scroll ball clogging and got a decent Logitech mouse.

I'm sure many people will love the Magic Trackpad but I have no interest in it. I don't know if it's just my tendency to have sweaty hands, but I've never been much good at trackpads, my fingers don't really glide over them. The people on the Apple ads always seem to be swiping and pinching and making it look easy but it doesn't work like that for me!

Has anybody else bought one of these yet ? I have had mine for a month now, and it's actually pretty cool, I think I actually prefer to use this more than the mouse, as I side note I sort of cheated and sticky taped it to my keyboard, and it know sort of feels like its part of it.

I've been using the Magic Trackpad for the last couple of months and I really love it.

It's so easy and simple to use, it's a much gentler way to interact with computer. Using a mouse you're always cupping the mouse with your hand, and switching between keyboard and mouse involves changing hand positions, with the Trackpad it's a much more seamless swtich between hand positions.

I really love the three fingers swipe left or right which replicates the 'Back' and 'Forward' web browser navigation (which was the thing I liked about the Logitech mouse with its back and forward rocker buttons). Also the three fingers up and down (top and bottom of the page). I use the four finger gestures a lot less; four fingers up/down is Exposé - Desktop / All windows.

Scrolling also easy, I know these things are on a Macbook, but just having the larger space and on desk rather than tied to the laptop makes it a lot easier to use.

All these gestures have become really natural for me when using the Trackpad.

The only issue is with it and the wired keyboard's pitch.
If you put them side by side you'll notice the Trackpad is slightly higher than keyboard, which isn't at all an issue unless your keyboard gets underneath the Trackpad, which means the trackpad can't click. Not a huge issue, just a placement one.

When I first got it I found clicking and dragging and other things like that to be somewhat tricky, but after using it pretty constantly for the last couple of months I've become fairly good at it.

I don't think it'll totally replace a mouse but for a good 80% of the work done on my iMac it's good for that.

I bought a MacBook pro for my daughter a few months ago (with dad user rights when needed!) and we took it away with us on holiday for a few weeks, well i really loved the trackpad ... all of the multi gestures became so intuitive .... So much so that I couldn't do without them and went and bought the pad for my iMac!

Similarly, I have a mouse and trackpad on my desk. The mouse is rarely used now. With the 27-inch iMac, the trackpad is the best way for me to track the pointer across the screen.
