Hi there,
I downloaded some new software (Capture One by Phase One) which is picture editing software.
It's a marvellous piece of software. When I deleted the photos from the software, it permanently deleted the photos from my computer i.e. the photos did not go to the system trash. The photos are no where to be found on the system.
I usually backup all my photos to an external HD. This is a rare occurrence.
The file format is Canon Raw cr.2
Can anyone recommend data recovery software for Lion? I would prefer something that is free (free to find the photos and free to recover). (I don't want to fork out a lot on software that I am only going to use once.)
Many thanks for your help and happy new year.

Try disk drill, I haven't personally used it, but I have heard some good reviews

So no Time Machine backup either? If not, although it won't help now I'd be turning it on immediately in case the next package does a similar thing.
Has your available disk space changed? If not that would suggest they are there *somewhere*. But your first step is to avoid doing anything that will overwrite the disk - best bet is to turn the machine off or at least to sleep.
Although you might not want to spend a lot, Disk Warrior is a highly recommended package that usually comes up with something. Most effective packages won't be cheap thought, but certainly cheaper than commercial data recovery rates.
