The great thing about Macs is that they are so distinctive. If you see one in the background of a movie or an ad, you know it's a Mac.

One of my favorite games is to identify Apple hardware, Macs, iPods etc in advertising, movies, TV shows or any other kind of media.

So I thought, why should I have all the fun? Everyone here at the AMW forums can participate!

If you see a Mac or any other Apple hardware in media such as; advertising (TV or print), movies or TV shows post it here.

So here are the basic rules of Mac Spotting:

• Apple hardware is to be identified as best possible

• Bonus points for extra detail such as what version of Mac OS X is being run, what applications are open, what applications are in the dock, tech specs etc

• The Apple hardware must be passive, it can't be the focus especially if it's an ad. It has to be in the background as part of set dressing or something.

• Software that runs on OS X is also acceptable eg sometimes Safari can be seen on Rove while Ryan Shelton is promoting rovedaily.com.au

• If you can provide proof in the form of a screenshot or photo, it'd be great but if it's something like a movie you can just say "There's a iMac G4 near the beginning of the Garfield Movie"

So to start things off:

Bondi Blue iMac G3 in the opening shot of the Howard Years, screened on ABC1 earlier tonight.

Have fun Mac Spotting!

EDIT: Whoah, that's odd behavior, look what the picture did to the post.

EDIT EDIT: I've resized the picture, no more odd behavior. I've also changed the rules to sound more relaxed and friendly, this is supposed to fun after all.

MBP regularly used by forensic pathologists in the Channel 7 program "Bones." You only ever see the opened "lid" with the Apple logo showing prominently.

In Nim's Island, the little girl has a G4 iMac, while Jodie Foster's character has twin Apple cinema displays. Presume they were hooked up to a Mac Pro but she also had a Mac laptop.

Actually, I just did a quick bit of scouting and here is a more comprehensive post than I could ever imagine producing.

Do I get half a point? smile.gif

Let's not forget the scene where one of the girls uses iChat to put on her lipstick.

One point per instance, I don't know, the points system is supposed to be informal. The only thing you win is bragging rights.

I'm going to be cheap and claim points for the examples I gave in my first post; iMac G4 in the Garfield movie running the Flurry screensaver, iMac G4s in Sacred Heart Hospital in Scrubs, Safari used in rovedaily promotion.

Also, Macs and iPods (even iPhones I think) pop up frequently in Californication. Hank is seen using a MacBook Pro on a few occasions, Mia has a black MacBook and I think Hank used a PowerBook G4 in the first season but I can't remember that well.

just for fun I will add:
in "24 Redemption" at about 59 minutes "Chris" is using a mac pro to upload some account information.

Also in the series "Chuck" - the main characters use iphones in just about every episode

In Legally Blonde, Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) sports a tangerine G3 iBook. It really stands out in a lecture hall full of black laptops.

Oh, and in House Season 4, House swipes Wilson's iPhone and pretends it was a gift from his secret santa.

And in an earlier season, where John Larroquette guest starred as a man who has just emerged from a coma, he climbs into Wilson's car and ask what an item is, "It says its's an 'ip-od'.

About 20 minutes from the end of Agent Cody Banks there is a tangerine iBook. It is only a quick flash, so much so that I had to rewind it, pause, and step frame ahead to get the frame with it in. This elicited a, "You're a freak" response. I don't think it was meant as a good thing either . . .

All the teachers in Summer Heights High use iBook G4s and some White MacBooks. The displays are not usually revealed so it is difficult to tell what applications are running.

Here's a good one.

I went to see Billy Joel perform at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last Wednesday, I spotted three Macs.

First, there was either a 15" PowerBook G4 or a MacBook Pro in the sound mixing area with it's keyboard backlight on.

http://web.mac.com/clinton1550/images/mac_...lly_joel_g4.JPG

Next there was a Cinema Display, possibly a 23", just across from the PowerBook/MacBook (same link as above).

Last there was a aluminium USB keyboard and a Mighty Mouse sitting in front of a third party LCD. The computer itself was hidden but I'm thinking a Mac Mini running Tiger, the default Aqua background could be seen on the screen along with the hard drive icon and numerous PDF files (or some other Preview document).

Unfortunately you can't see the keyboard or mouse in the photo I took but I could see them clearly with my binoculars, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Other than that, the concert was great. If you want to see more from the concert, click on my YouTube and Web Gallery links now and my blog link in a few hours time.

I think the laptop in Clinton's picture is a PowerBook G4, and I'm pretty Shure (Ha!) what brand their wireless mics are!

Now we're onto live shows, this is the lighting rig from Rock Eisteddfod 2008 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre:

Fairly self-explanatory smile.gif - The 3D light visualisation software on the display above the lighting desk was truly awesome biggrin.gif
