Error Number : 1660 The following ink tank cannot be recognized. "Black" Printing cannot be executed because the ink tank may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer. Install the appropriate ink tank.
This occurs after having used that ink tank for a good 2 months prior with no problems. Have made sure the tank is sitting properly in its base snap-locked and it is 3/4 full of ink. Any ideas?

I have an MP800 and have had to reset it a few times. I also refill cartridges myself, resetting the chip in the cartridge each time using a "chip resetter" which can be bought from specialist suppliers, or of course via eBay, for around $20.00
Note: there is nothing illegal about refilling one's own cartridges, despite the impression given by some that it's akin to piracy. Charging $100 for $1.00 worth of ink is piracy! And don't worry about your warranty, even if threats to talk to the ACCC fail to get action on a warranty claim, you will have paid for a new printer in two refills anyway. In twenty years I haven't had a printer problem caused by refilling!
Sorry, I got a bit sidetracked, RESET, then try a chip resetter or removing the chip (from the ink cartridg) entirely then resetting the printer. I

Anyway, I solved the problem by tossing the Printer in the bin, and buying a Kyocera, which does 8000 pages, and has NO chip, which saves me, around 3 grand a year on cartridges ( hence why i could afford to toss the HP), and it was cheaper to purchase than the HP, by about $400.00

These instructions are good but you can have less work if you used the you tube process and then fill the hole with the replacement ball in the instructions kit, i know it sounds confusing but it's not really.....
