It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and I need to come up with something that my wife can buy me for it that doesn't cost a fortune (i.e no more than around $200 NZ).
As most of you will no doubt know I'm a geek through and through and have been one for over 30 years now so I'd like something Apple/tech related.
I'd love any ideas that forum members might have.
Cheers
Jamie

Nice idea Ken, we already have 2 Apple TVs :-) Love them to bits but couldn't really justify updating either of them to the new 1080P version.
I'm assuming that's an inkjet printer Ken? Cost per page on those is terrible (around 25c/page) compared to a laser at approx. 4c a page - assuming you don't need colour lasers are the way to go.

Damn Ken it's never good when things like that go wrong especially at this time of the year! Wish I could offer any assistance, or even another printer! Just think of it as another FRED - Flipping (you might choose to use a harsher word here ;-) ) Ridiculous Electronic Device.

I think I've settled on an Airport Extreme as then we should be able to go totally wireless and get excellent speeds with the added advantage that I'll be able to move the printer and TimeMachine backup disk from being plugged in to the iMac to being plugged in to the Airport Extreme.

Hey Jamie.. I just got an extreme 2 weeks ago and the speed is great!
On the note of using it to plug in an external hard drive and use it as a time machine backup wirelessly, well I tried that and I only wanted to back up 350GB of data and I woke up in the morning and it said it would take 72 days to back that up initially via time machine.
I asked in the Apple Store and they said the Extreme isn't recommended for time machine backups.... I can see why now. That's what the Time Capsule is for. So I just plug my external drive in like normal and do my time machine backups.
Also if you look on Apples site under the Extreme product page, it doesn't mention anywhere to plug in an external drive and do time machine backups.
Still it's a great product!
