love how clean & organised your setup is !

here's an older picture of mine:

Posted Image

hasn't changed too much since then, there's another desktop raid been added just to the left of the tower (taurus). not sure how much storage i have to list it, be around 5 or 6 terabytes all up. gaming setup to the right of the picture (500gb ps3 slim) but on the far left just out of the picture is work benches where i frame photos.

the mac is a 2.3ghz dual core g5, 5.5 or 6 gig of ram, 2x 150gb hdds, ati radeon x1900 xt feeding 2x 22" lcds, dual sata pci-e raid card. few other upgrades & add-ons like 2x dual layer firewire dvd burners & stuff.

it's an older machine but still quicker than my 2.53ghz 13" macbook pro which is also in the picture.

Mick, the sailor is coming out in you the way everything has its place and is presented in such an orderly manner.
You truly are a great supporter of anything which is Mac related.

That's a lot of computing power there GraphicX, no game too big eh! So much storage space all for graphic based programing????

Mine is only organised (as both you & Stubzee pointed out), because it's the yachtie coming out in me. You wouldn't believe it but i was down on the boat having a bit of a tidy up when the email came in that there had been a reply to this thread, i had a quick read & chuckle to myself as I was stowing parachute & smoke flares away (checking their use by dates, as you do).

Mick, i spent the majority of my working life in the Australian Navy and it was obvious to me that you are a well organised person.

yeah all graphics based stuff but some hd vid recording too, but most of what i've got is in raid, so you can say i've got say 2tb in 2 hdds but i'd only have half that space available, i can't afford to lose my data (i also have backups stored elsewhere on dvd but only make backups that way over the xmas break).

i could see the admiralty chart in the picture you posted, in the back left of my office is all my fishing gear & boating stuff, i only have a quintrex dinghy though lol.

i noticed the pictures of our desks have something in common beyond the same brand of computer too, both images have a macworld mag just to the right of the mouse.

Gidday Gordon, I thought it might have been the Australian East Coast chart "Whitsunday Passage to Palm Islands" that gave it away, Ha! Now there's a nice stretch of the coast......

You're very observant, nothing wrong with the "Quinnie" tough as nails, i also use this chart (the one you can see on the wall) to plot cyclones on, just like the last one Ului, plotted that until all hell was

breaking loose around us, we were very close to the centre see pic below from the BOM, this was the last one from them (BOM) at around 1230 hrs so it was nearly onto of us then as the red dot (in the centre)

passed over us and the power in the lappie went dead, an ominous sign......

Mick one my favourite times at sea was transiting the reef during early to late evening when they were burning the cane.
Sure was impressive.

Here's my rig

Attached File  P1020651.jpg (48.24K)

On the desk:

27-inch iMac
13-inch MacBook Pro on a Griffin Elevator stand
iPad
iPhone 4
Canon MP640
Cisco SPA540G IP Phone (via MyNetFone)

Under the desk:

Belkin UPS
Mac mini server
five-bay NAS

The desk is from an open-plan office. I procured it during an office refit. It gives me about 3.5 metres of bench space. Out of picture, I have another, shorter bench (about 1.8 meters). I need all that bench space for testing review gear for AMW and others.

The story of how I built my office is here.

hey b,better than nothing!!!!
at least you have something to work or save towards,i never just go out and buy things,i laybuy or save for ages beforehand, get a jar and cram your change into it,stuff like that.you be surprised what you can achieve with a bit of positive manifestation btw,[yeh, sounds wacky but it works for me]
i never care or worry about money,i refuse to let it have that power over me,yet it just seems to come when i want or need it,then again,i never mind giving/sharing either,so maybe theres a cycle going on,anyway, hope this xmas brings you some nice surprises mate,
i woke up and i was breathing, another good day!!!

wow anthony nice rig,bet you never have to worry about a hdrive crash etc, guess youd need the security of backup for the work you do ,good stuff, its fun isnt it,i just set up file/cd-dvd sharing on the two laptops i have, and that was quite satisfying to get each device to talk to each other, and i bought an hdmi to m/display port too the other day,it looks great through my 40" lcd for movies and gaming, its a never ending journey with tech, ive got a ssd in my 15"and its been a good learning curve to learn how to do tweaks to the system [vista and osx]for better performance/longevity,still got to figure out how to enable noatime in osx tho, anyone know?

Note that a NAS/RAID does not usually equate to a backup. The only good backup is an off-site backup.
Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it most never use it.
