It seems that if you still have the original iPad, you won't be getting any love from apple when they release iOS 6, a few chinese forums (which have posted links to the beta versions of iOS 6) are showing that the original iPad will be shunned, just like apple did to the iPhone 3, last year with ios5.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing, or is it just the way technology goes and you just need to upgrade to the latest and greatest gadgets to enjoy all the software updates and new features

yeah i had a feeling the original iPad might miss out, I guess just like the iPhone 3G the hardware just can't support the new software, but i does seem the Macs have a far longer life span then the iOS devices my MacBook is old and my iMac 5 years old and both are running the latest OS X.

Whatever the reason, I think it's a good thing. Having a device that can't keep up with the OS is just frustrating. Better to either live within your OS's means or upgrade the device, IMO.

I'm happy for them to drop support for old models rather than have bloated software. I still have an original flat panel iMac and I think Tiger was the last OS that I could put on that, but it's still useable and I have later machines that run the current software anyway.

Phones, and increasingly tablets, are tailored more to two-year carrier contracts. While they will probably be good for a few more years, that's really when they start to become obsolete.

Another thing: phones are going through a rapid state of development that PCs have left behind.
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.

I like being the voice of reason. It makes me feel superior. I also like watching the carnage between Ken, Jamie and Brian, which sort of undoes all my good works :4:

I say ditch the iPad 1. It's clunky piece of junk..:)

Did I just say that...:)

You can't progress software when the hardware can't keep up... So it's a good thing.

It's annoying though if you can't afford to upgrade.

Its a bit tough on those on a limited budget. Specially for those who intend using it for their studies and relevant textbooks.

True Gordon, but they are actually not stopping anybody from using the current model, with the next update, they are just going to make you jealous because, you won't have all the new cool features it has to offer, and people will want to save up there loose change to get there hands on one

I think that it is disgusting FULL STOP.

I am really CHEESED off to say the least. What is all this about ditching a product that is only a few years old..I think I am through with APPLE I can tell you.

Pure consumerism...and I thought they were better. In the name of progress we are really witnessing a society of waste. Shame to APPLE ! That is all I can say there! :italiamac_whip: :redcard:

Sorry Peggi, I just can't agree. The iPad 1 does more than when it was released. It still does what you bought it for and is quite usable. It just won't have all the bells and whistles. No one is being ripped off. And from what I can see the iPad 1 is quite a bit slower than the new iPad and iPad 2 - I don't think Apple are being stingy, they've probably just had a lot of negative feedback about new OSes on old hardware. I have a 3GS with iOS 5 and I can tell you I sometimes wish I hadn't upgraded. Compare it to Android which sometimes don't get an update at all!

I don't see a big problem with this, old tech can't run new software, this has always been the case.

Your iPad 1 will still work the same, you will still be able to do all the things you used to do on it. You just won't get whatever new features are released in iOS6, no big drama.

No, because I grow my own. I'd ask them what fertilizer they used and where ca I get some ;)

And it is no biggie, I have an iPad 1 and understand that all tech has a shelf life for updates. (I also have an iPad 2 and can't wait for ios 6 bwahahaha)

Pegi, no offense but you need to get with the times. Technology moves so quickly there is no way old technology can keep up with new software.

It's the way it is and has been for ever.

I find it funny how you're always cheesed off with Apple, but still buy their products...:)

It amuses me...:)
