I think it was a silly move on Apple's part, but I guess they had to do it to prove a point.
I was waiting for the retaliation from RIM and Co.

I know I will be unpopular for saying this... But, to show others defects to cover ones own, is never a smart move.

I agree with you for once TL..
... But I guess they were desperate and wanted to prove a point...especially when Nokia took a swing at them by saying you can hold our phone any way you want, before the press conference.

Apple would have been a mile in front if they quietly fixed the problem, as opposed to actully hi lighting it. And getting into an un winnable smear campaign.

This.
Although I see why they'd want to demonstrate that all phones can have this problem. I don't think it's so much a smear campaign as trying to gloss over their own issues. Anyway, is it an issue with the other phones or not/ All RIM said was they're experts in antenna design, they didn't refute the attenuation claims.

I've actually managed to replicate the death-drip on a friends Blackberry when holding the device the signal strength went down about 2 bars and when I let go it went back up to the amount of bars before I did the deathgrip.

Very interesting chasej.
Glad to hear it does affect the Blackberry which backs up Apple's claim.
Still though, some people claim the death grip on the iPhone 4 totally wipes out the signal until the call gets dropped.
I can't wait to get my new iPhone 4 to test all this out and see if it's all for real.

I truly think the only solution, Is either a case, or if you don't want to ruin the ascetics of the phone, simply paint the bottom left hand corner with your wife or parters Clean nail lacquer.
