Oh well.

Right. I'm going in. At 180MB, though, in the immortal words of the not-so-immortal Captain Oates, I may be some time...

(or, in other words, if I don't post anything for a couple of days, then 10.5.2 is borked. If I do, not so much...)

And back out the other side. Everything that was working seems to still be working, and Time Machine seems to have shifted position... and annoyingly, my Lexmark X342n still doesn't work using its own driver (it used to under Tiger)....

180 meg?

You're lucky! I'm just downloading 341 MB as we speak. Maybe I've got 10.5.2a coming down the pipe!

It does seem to quit programs a little faster -- most notably iPhoto, which used to give me 20+ second waits before it toddled away. Not much of a selling point, mind you: "Now stops working even faster!"

Have you played with the Stacks, menu bar (and menu) transparency and Time Machine menu options yet?

I've downoaded and installed it.

I've set the menu bar to less transparent and removed Time Machine from the Dock. I've also set the Applications and Utilities (/Applications/Utilities) folders to display as folders. Mail has been updated to version 3.2.

One point to note for those with an MBP who have turned of automatic adjustment of the brightness is that this update turns them back on again.

One last point is that those with Leopard also need to download and install Leopard graphics Update 1.0 after installing 10.5.2.

They have not fixed the scrolling problem though, hit return in the event balloons, and the scroll bars return to the top.

List view in Stacks was worth the install. I've kept one fan view with some funky icons just because I'm a knob, but the rest work now.

I've not found the translucent menu to be a problem, so won't bother changing it, but it's nice to access Time Machine preferences with a single click on the icon in the dock now.

For me, list view makes Stacks much more useable, I prefer the solid menu bar, and I like the addition of the time machine icon in the bar.

Ok, so I chose "Install and keep Package" as I have other Macs to put it on. So now I am wondering, where is this Package? I looked in "Receipts" and there are indeed a lot of packages (280MB worth) but alas no 10.5.2 to speak of.

Any thoughts ?

Well I have a G4 iBook and 10.5.2 update transformed it beyond belief, before it was so slow I spent time playing games like how long in seconds is the coloured ball going to be on screen, count now 1.2.3.4 here we go......, it drove me nuts and worried that Panther would have been a major step backwards, now its quick, (for a 1G) iBook, on that the update it must have configured the system to the Mac and now it all works hurly burly, Smoother and quicker, no lag now on the scrolling, Maybe its just the older Macs that you can really notice the difference?, well worth the update **** 4 stars.
I like the new stacks view as well, but wish Apple would change the boring blue Folder Icon, its flat and hard to find.
Graphic update looks good too, but wish you could have more different colours than just Blue and Grey?

On my MacBook Pro and a first series Intel iMac it installed without any dramas - the 343MB file is the full combo installer (will install any 10.5.0 or 10.5.1 machine) - I'd generally recommend installing this version, as the 10.5.1 standalone installer avoided some issues when it was released. However, 343MB is a huge file :\

Love the new Stack view options, and have turned off the menubar transparency.

You're better off downloading the Combo Update and use that, as Sean has suggested. I only use Combo Updates when applying an update to any version of Mac OS X. The major advantages of the Combo Update are as Sean stated plus the fact that if you need to reinstall Leopard again, you only need to install one update (and maybe a couple of Security Updates at most).

I forgot to mention two things about Time Machine:

The animation of the icon when backing up is great (the arrow, hour and minute hands rotate anti-clockwise plus the hour hand only moves in one hour increments after the minute hand has rotated through 60 minutes).

The second item is that, following the installation of the Combo and Grpahics Updates, the size of the backup was 1.6GB.
