Ok, this post will upset everybody who thinks the idea of apple making a tv is a joke.

Well as you can tell by the heading, the things is very soon to become reality, and I am excited.

I'm still not convinced. That article says nothing new.... Except more speculation and rumors.

Nope, don't believe it. I honestly don't think Apple will release a TV it just doesn't fit their business model.

How does it not fit their business model? Admittedly TVs are a low margin commodity these days and its hard to imagine a premium product doing very well. But I can see it fitting nicely into the Apple ecosystem with built in iTunes Store access, maybe some kind of enhanced app integration (a few games already run nicely on the ATV). I'm not concerned one way or the other since I won't be getting one. But I'm not sure it's such a weird idea anymore.

A consumer electronics device that is perfect for accessing content from the iTunes store (and nowhere else) that will be snapped up by fans the world over. Many homes still don't have a computer, but most have more than one TV, so this will also expose them potentially to a new market as well.

What part of that doesn't fit their business model?

I just don't see it as the right fit. Unless it does something pretty spectacular that justifies its price what's the advantage over a normal TV paired with a current Apple TV?.

It just doesn't feel right to me and has no appeal at all to me either, unless of course it does something "magical" Posted Image

A lot of people would argue Apple products don't justify the price anyway!

What a fit? If apple stagnate into a one trick pony they are doomed.

People have to remember, Steve jobs, changed the company years ago, from apple computers to apple inc. so they could shake off the shackles of just being a computer company.

I'm pretty sure it was you who made the point, what is the advantage of a TV set over STB?
You might not know it to look at me, but I'm pretty radical.

In the Apple world, simplicity.

Why have a separate screen and computer when you can have an iMac, why have a separate screen and stb when you can have an apple tv, or whatever it is called.

A good point Ken but I guess my fear is that if Apple start to have too much diversity in their products then they will spread their resources too thin. But I guess with all the money they have in the bank they can just get more resources.

I probably did. I could be changing my mind, flip-flopping or playing devil's advocate. I'm not sure which just now ;)
