Hi every one I was just looking at external blu-ray DVD drives for the new apple imac that you plug in through USB. What i wanted to know was will the blu-ray disc play at the sam resolution on the imacs screen (20 inch) as it would on a Hd Tv and would i notice much better quality compared to a normal disc played in the super dirve
Thanks fo the help Mitch.

Can't help Mitch, sorry.

Do you have an HD TV?

You could play the external drive through the iMac onto an AppleTV?

I thought I was wrong once...but I was mistaken

Tough question mitch with so few bluray players around, I can see the resolution being as good as a plasma or LCD tv dueto most of the new ones being 1080i or 1080p resolution. Personally I would hold off until apple builds blue ray into there macs, and wait to get some feed back after that point. Thats just my 2 cents worth others may have different ideas.

the good thing, is mitch when apple do build blue ray into the mac it will be done the right way with updated software to make the most of it. And while you are waiting the good thing is that the players will constantly drop in price

MSY have Blu-Ray internal drives at $311 with single layer media (25Gb) at $12 each disc. Still pricey but being forward thinking and seeing the end of HD-DVD recently I have to think Blu-Ray will be an option for iMacs and Mac Pros in the next major update. Hopefully in the next 6-8 months.

Yes they will, but i think it will appear as a build to order option on the power macs, until the prices drop to under 100.00 for the drive and the disks are around 4 to 5 bucks a piece.

Mac Pros definitely, but not iMacs for a while (perhaps next year).
